Richard W. Coombs serves as Senior Project Supervisor for MBI Group.

With over 30 years in the construction industry and special expertise in core and shell, Richard W. Coombs serves as Senior Project Superintendent for MBI Group’s Core & Shell division.  In this capacity, Mr. Coombs coordinates scheduling of all project trades, supervises quality control and serves as the team’s onsite “problem solver” for new construction projects.

Since joining the MBI team in 2001, Mr. Coombs’ prestigious client roster includes Swig Equities LLC, Boys' Club of NY and 7 WTC/ConEdison Substation, Coach, as well as multiple projects for The New York Times, Evergreen International, Computer Solutions, TIS International, Jack Parker Associates, Mattel Toy Corp.
and Lalique luxury glass retailer. Among his roster of projects with MBI are multi-phase, multi-year renovation projects, where residential units in apartment buildings are upgraded to luxury premier residential units and condominiums. Amenities on these projects were also upgraded and restored whether it be the lobby, spa, cafe, garden, or pool valuing up to $60M and over 700,000 square feet.

Prior to joining MBI, Mr. Coombs served as director of field operations for a major construction company based in New York City.  In this position, he was responsible for overseeing all construction projects from start to completion including organization, scheduling and coordination of all field personnel, activities and subcontractors.  Mr. Coombs stewarded the firm’s reporting systems for quality control, budget control, trouble shooting as well as final project inspections.  Similar to MBI, the firm specialized in high-end interior build-outs, trading areas, retail and new construction.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Coombs served as the general superintendent/project superintendent for Ryder Construction, Inc.  In this capacity, he provided the firm with project management, project organization, scheduling and coordination of all field activities. There he was responsible for quality control, budget control and project close-out.

His work with Ryder included a variety of core and shell projects including a 50-story restoration at 444 Madison Avenue which featured a new lobby, installation of 13 new elevators, a new electrical upgrade, complete window replacement, façade restoration and a major mechanical upgrade including new cooling towers.  Mr. Coombs served as the project superintendent for the new construction of a 15,000 s.f., 2-story medical facility in Long Beach, New York.  The scope of work included therapy pools, an indoor running track and operating facilities.

Mr. Coombs has earned his 30-hour OSHA training certificate and is a registered Field Supervisor with the Department of Buildings. He recently completed Site Sense II Training which focuses on Project Site Pre-Planning, At-Risk Behavior Modification and Effective Field Supervision.
